Stirha Sukham Asanam is the yoga sutra stating that Yoga Asana is a sitting in a balanced state of effort and ease.
This course came about when a dear yoga teacher asked me to speak to her teacher training students about the nervous system. When you learn to find the state of balance within your Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), you are finding your way toward Yoga and also promoting optimal health.
This course explains the brain and ANS, explores subtle energetic yoga anatomy, discusses how yoga practices and the ANS overlap, and dives into ways you can dial your system up or down based on your needs in each moment. You will learn the physiologic and energetic effects of different poses, adaptations you can explore and dive into pranayama techniques that can up or down-regulate your system.
Hi! I'm Lisa
I practice physical therapy and myofascial release, write, am a lifelong learner and have been practicing and teaching yoga intermittently for over 30 years. I have a specialty in working with people with chronic pain and illness and have found that working on balancing the nervous system is the key to finding health and diminished pain. Yoga has a natural inclination towards addressing this important system and when using this art in a balanced way, we can learn how to thrive.
This course is meant to help yoga teachers and practitioners find that balance.
